Explaining the Consultation Process
i thought I better put a post up explaining submissions and all that sort of stuff and a bit about the process that the council goes through.
When the council writes important documents that affect the community it goes through what we call a consultation process. This means that for a certain period of time the public (you) are able to make a submission to council on an issue or document (the LTCCP) what this means is that you put your thoughts, ideas and opinions onto paper (or screen) and send it to the council.
The council then considers your thoughts, ideas and opinions and makes decisions about what changes should or shouldn't be made.

Libraries
We want to make sure that the libraries have what you need.
Do you enjoy going to the library? Do you think the library has enough books? Maybe you think there needs to be another computer. Does the library close too early? If there is something that you want from your local library let us know.

Walking and Biking
The council is thinking about putting in some walking and cycling routes to help people get around on foot or bike easily and safely and to make paths that people can walk or bike for fun. Is there anywhere that you might like to be able to walk or bike along?
We also want people to feel safe when biking or walking to and from school, work or other places. Do you walk or bike to school? If you do, do you feel safe? Maybe there is a road that is hard to cross. Maybe you need somewhere to park your bike when you go to the shop. If you want us to make it easier or safer for to walk or bike around let us know what problems you are having.

Parks
We want to know if you enjoy going to your local park. The council wants to have your input in deciding what changes, if any, should be made to the parks.
Do you think that your local park needs a playground? Or maybe the one that is there is boring and you want a new one. Are there enough trees for shade? Do you want tables to have a picnic at? Can you get into the park easily? Is there anything else we could put in to make it more fun?

Hanmer Springs Thermal Pools
The council is looking at putting a new pool into the Hanmer Spring’s Pools. We are looking at making it a new play area and we want to hear what you think there should be in it.
Do you want more hydro slides? Do you want them to go fast or slow? Have you been to a pool with a really exciting toy or activity that you think would be fun to have at Hanmer? Do you like the idea of having a pool that freezes in the winter so that you can ice-skate on it?

Amberley Swimming Pool
The Amberley swimming pool will only last about another 10 years, which means that we will need to decide what to do when the time comes to replace it. We need to start planning for it now so let us know what you want to help us plan a new pool. We want to know what activities you enjoy doing when you go to the pool or what activities you think would be fun.
Would you prefer to have it inside or out? Do you want to have more toys to play with in the pool? Do you think the pool needs to be bigger or maybe smaller? Anything you can think of, let us know.

Youth Summary Sheet
Hurunui Long Term Community Plan
Every three years the council writes a long term plan to set out what we are going to do over the next three years and where we want to be heading in the next ten years. This plan is known as a long term council community plan, but we just call it an LTCCP for short.
Before we finalise the plan we need to make sure that people like it. So we have written a draft one. The plan itself is really long, about 300 pages! But don't let that put you off. You don't actually have to read the whole thing because we have written some summaries, which I will be putting on the blog for you to have a read.
I'll be putting up more posts over the next couple of weeks, stuff like how to make a submission, issues that might affect you and how to talk to us about it.
